Sweet Escape
A sweet escape.
That’s all I need.
A swig, a shot,
Or rather to drown out the misery
Let me swim in this liquor
Let my vision grow hazy, unclear
So that then I can leave reality
Escape every fear
Little did I know though
I escaped in more ways than desired
Leaving reality to limitless boundaries
I abandoned my life entirely
Blankly staring, gawking, I hover
over that stiff, pale corpse
Frozen. Halted.
Swallowed by remorse
My wish, my desire desperately I yearned
To escape reality.
To escape my sorrows.
To escape from lessons to be learned.
Death slapped me across the face
Mocking, laughing
Irony had a bitter taste to it
Graciously presenting me the sweet escape I’d been asking
for.
