Time cannot change me. They cannot give me titles I have not earned.

I do not like them to say that I am just another creature, that I undergo metamorphosis , that I am camouflaged day and night and never take off my false skin,
and that I am a chameleon that cares more for survival than for truth,
that I cannot be different than the rest.

That as I grow I’ll face harsh reality and become a fire breathing dragon,
with more nests to watch over and more mouths to feed,
and I will just scowl at the others or smile, pretending to be a friend
or pretending to be an enemy, depending on what each situation calls for.

I refuse to howl when they mistreat me, when they believe they are superior.
While they chase their prey and savor the blood of their brother and sister victims,
I will enjoy the morning warmth and the mercy of the sun.

I will enjoy the darkness from which they run away,
and will let the tornado wrap itself around me with gentle care,
and will let the devil play with my soul, and sell it if he must,
but he will never reach my heart, because it is too deep inside me,
connected to everything that I am and will be, somebody different,
whose head is raised, and whose hand is extended, and whose mind is open, because I am a new kind of being that still has faith in the world an still feels devotion to humanity .

Maybe it is a disease that does not make me human,
maybe they will try to manipulate my heart, but to close it they must open it first,
and it is already so exposed that I assure you it will never be unlocked.

My only key is a door wide open,
That locks itself with the lack of trust
that pollutes the city air; I hear a cough, a wheeze,
a desperate attempt to cling to a life that never was.

I know tragedy unfolds at the speed of light
And can only be reversed by the password of “love”,
As I build my Noah´s Ark out of origami,
I pronounce the words “I refuse to hate”.

I know belief will build my boat,
And my paper sail will fill with power,
But if no one listens to my desperate calls
Emptiness will be the ruthless invader
And my efforts will be futile.

I hope news of my demise remains unknown.
I want to believe that they were just busy,
That the sound of the earth was so deafening that they couldn´t hear the church bells ringing,
And that the fog was so blinding that they lost sight of hope.

If they did hear me and overlooked my calls,
I will lose all recollection of the past,
And will choose to quickly forget,
To maintain what I still possess.

If I must go blind or deaf, I will,
But I’ll never lose my will to fight,
And oppose the world´s corporation
With my peaceful worship.

I am proud to have my own temple,
That I take wherever I go,
I just close my eyes and with a grin I say….
“I refuse to hate”.

I sit alone,
but have seats reserved
for all who wish to join.

For years I have dreamed of the moment,
When they’ll make an oath and convinced declare
“I refuse to hate”.
