You can't judge a book by it's cover
See that girl standing there?
Being laughed at because of her weight.
The one as heavy as an hippo?
Her name is Claire.
Underneath that huge size
Is something she can’t control.
An eating disorder that grips her body
She dreams of killing herself.
You can’t judge a book from it’s cover.
What about the big mean jerk?
The one they call so tough.
Underneath is a big old lie
That jerk gets beaten.
At home he see’s fists flying, instead of hugs.
Angry words instead of love.
Blows from a boot instead of bedtime stories.
No hopes and dreams,
Only crying and screams in his home.
Inside his room, he’s hidden a rope.
The one he stole from his dad.
What he has planned with the rope,
Is to make the misery leave forever.
You can’t judge a book by it’s cover.
Then there’s the the guy over there
The bystander who’s just watching.
Everyone calls him ‘Johnny the Junkie’.
Because he uses drugs like it’s life.
Whenever he feels upset,
He turns to drugs,
Like they were his best friends.
A million times a day.
What people who sneer don’t notice,
Is that tomorrow night he’ll ‘accidentally’ overdose
So BAM! The pain will be gone forever.
You can’t judge a book by it’s cover.
