Drinking and Driving
I was going to a party,
Just going to have some fun,
I was going to get home safely,
When the night was done,
My driver went home early,
I got a ride with a friend,
Little did I know,
My life was about to end,
I was sitting there laughing,
With a drink in my hand,
I was listening to the music,
It was my favorite band,
We looked at each other,
And smiled for the night,
But when I looked back,
I saw a bright light,
There was no time to scream,
Everything went dark,
And when I was awoken,
I saw a little mark,
It had my name upon it,
Followed by the word dead,
How could this have happened?
Is this really what it said?
I could hear them talking,
They said that I was gone,
They put me in a casket,
And waited till dawn,
The funeral was coming,
Everyone was wearing black,
And as they all approached me,
I had some flash backs,
I remember having fun,
And talking with my friends,
How was I supposed to know,
That night was where it ends,
Then my mom approached me,
I was trying not to cry,
I saw the tears roll down her face,
Why did I have to die?
Now they close the casket,
And put me in the ground,
This might not have happened,
If I had listed to the sound,
No drinking and driving,
That’s the rules of the road,
It’s not hard to follow,
It isn’t a code,
Please don’t let this happen to you,
For you’re not the only one that pays,
Your loved ones hurt all the time,
Through the nights and all the days!
