Hating Me for Loving You

A shadow within my heart, unable to be erased
you left and took my heart with you.
You're the fleeting bird while I'm the stagnant tree
I would like to believe that that's not how it is meant to be.

Oh how I long to know if you knew.
Traces of you linger within these walls
Your time to leave was sadly overdue.
Diving in, I never realized how deep I'd fall

Can we really not stray from this course?
Or is it that you don't feel any remorse?

You try to protect me from your demons and shut me out.
While I'm fighting and losing a battle against myself.

Don't forgive me for letting you go
I never did and I still love you so.

The author's comments:
This poem was written for the person I love with all my heart. The endless cycle that we've been through for the past four years has inspired me to express everything into this poem. I hope I get the opportunity to tell him how I feel one day.
