A Winter Remembrance
Have you ever noticed the way the snow melts…
First it disappears slowly, then all at once and
before you know it, it’s gone.
It’s a sad sight once the snow melts,
The ground is cold, muddled and confused;
Unable to process the transition of the leaves—
But then you came and the flowers bloomed,
Your smile became my sun, your laughter a bird’s song
The melody of childish laughter infiltrated my lungs,
I remembered the sensation of a midnight breeze,
The rush of catching fireflies in the light—
Hiding them in glass jars and waiting for their glow to burn out.
You became my spring, you were my everything;
Your presence made me not regret the death of winter, instead it made me hopeful for the remembrance of spring.
Because with you I could begin again,
With you I could be someone that wasn’t a frozen perfection but instead was an ending’s beginning.
And once the sun came out that was when I knew;
you had fallen for me and I for you,
I fell for you like the melting of the snow,
slowly then all at once.
