Perfection

Sometimes
People are raised
To try to be this
Idea of Perfection
That no one can achieve
They are kept in a small bubble
In a quiet society
Never exposed to the
Outsiders
Of the world
But sometimes things change.
Sometimes our bubble no longer exists.
Sometimes we find those Outsiders
Sometimes those Outsiders show us
Things
Ideas
Places
We've never thought about
Things
Ideas
Places
We've never dreamed about
Things
Ideas
Places
We've never been allowed to
See
Think
Know
About
Then suddenly
We aren't Perfect anymore.
And suddenly
We feel free
And suddenly
We feel on top of the world
And suddenly
We aren't accepted
In our small society anymore
We aren't Perfect anymore
We have been exposed
To the Imperfections around us
And now we are rejected
From the the things that kept us so
Perfect
From those who thought we were so
Perfect
From the bubble of a society that kept us so
Perfect
But Perfection
Does not exist
Perfection
Never Has
Perfection
Never Will.

The author's comments:
Being a teen, I can honestly say I do relate to this poem and it is about some of the struggles I have felt in life. People are pressured to be perfect and adults sometimes try to recreate and perfect their childhood through their children and that was what inspired me to write this piece. I hope that by reading and understanding this piece, readers will understand that to succeed you do not have to feel the need to be perfect, or to meet someone's standards of perfection, just be yourself.
