Days Are Numbered, Opportunities Are Limitless
Humans are the only creatures
Who count the time,
The years, the months, the days,
The hours, the minutes, the seconds,
Tick... tick... tick... tick... tick... tick.
Time needs to be spent wisely,
As I throw a bag of chips into the shopping cart,
And decisions need to be made for my future,
As I pick up a twelve pack of soda.
The computer logged the time I spent on games,
Days upon days worth of time,
All of it irrecoverable.
I left myself a few sodas in the fridge,
And forgot the rest in the basement.
Today I am among the computer icons of my friends,
Who haven’t logged on for six or more weeks.
I can’t subtract from that counter,
But I can stop adding to it.
Humans are the only creatures
Who count the time,
Because the broken glass of time is dripping,
And every second is a reminder of our mortality.
Tick...
tick...
tick.
