Just The Memories
“Write about your idol” was the prompt at the top of the page.
As the last word was read, she instantly knew who she would write about;
The one who spent the most time with her and taught her most of everything she knew.
He taught her how to change the oil, the spark plugs, and the tires on her car.
He lit fireworks for her on the fourth of July, taught her how to swim, and he helped her with her homework every night in front of the fireplace.
He taught her how to mow the lawn, how to form a proper sentence, and how to defend herself against a potential threat.
Daddy didn’t raise a punk.
Over the years, as troubles came their way, she looked at him with eyes of wonder and question…but she never stopped searching for hope...
That’s what he said, right?
“Don’t give up!?”
Daddy didn’t raise a punk.
Soon, those memories full of smiles and laughter turn into a game of hide and seek.
She looks for a reason to smile, but all she finds is the depressing truth.
Daddy used to have her back,
Now all she has is his last name.
