At War With Myself
We are our own enemy
We put disgrace on ourselves
As we beg and plea
For attention we feel we need
We pick a face off the shelves
And hide away from our own version of hell
We tell ourselves that we’re useless.
Yet in all reality
We’re just clueless
Because we’re too busy fighting with “normality”
We paint a smile on our faces
So they won’t see the pain
And we lose sight of our graces
Because were mentally becoming insane
We are the generation
that want to be let free
And our hearts fill up with darkness
because we can’t cope with temptation
And we beg
Let me be!
But the voices in our heads are heartless
And we try to run away
But then they ask us why
“Why run away from what can make you stronger”
“Why quit and never learn how to fly”
And they yell in our heads
Of not good but everything wrong that we do instead
We wake up everyday
facing the same battle
Of actually trying to make it through living this way
We watch as the sun comes up
and as the moon rises down
But we don’t make a sound
Because were scared.
Scared of what the world will see
if we don’t perfect our personalities
And if we’re down or hurt
they go on with that verse
And yes sticks and stones will break our bones
but don’t tell us that words won’t hurt
Calling each other names behind the keyboard of our phones
I am my own enemy
I always let the world get to me
And when I decide to wake up
That’s when I’ll show what I’m made of
