Ana was beautiful
Perfect, and thin
I longed to be like her
And she took me under her wing
We stood in the mirror
We compared tummies and toes
And the longer I looked
The more beautiful she became

Six months and five days
Since first meeting Ana
Every morning she grabs my stomach
And every night she pinches my thighs
And with every calorie screams
Punishes me
"They will never love you
You're only creating a pig"

One year and seven days
Since first meeting Ana
She says she's proud of me
That I'm almost beautiful
We stand in the mirror
And compare tummies and toes
And the longer I looked
The more like Ana I became

The inspiration for this piece came from my personal struggle with anorexia. I hope when people read this, that they understand how ugly anorexia, or any eating disorder for that matter, really is. No matter how "ideal" that tiny body seems, it will never be enough. And it could end up resulting in your death. I just want people to realize that they aren't alone in what they might be going through. There is always someone out there who understands, and help is always available.
