Hey man,
I’m not sure if you listen to books, but I could really use some… what is that word?
It’s like “assist.” Almost. Sorta. Not quite. See, I need you to do all the work.
I’m stuck.
A lovely young lady had picked me up, but before she decided I was a good read,
her mother called her off and, in her haste, she pushed my quite roughly onto my shelf,
back so far it’s dark and dusty and no one can see me.
They restocked right over me.
I really need some… well, I lack the word.
I’ve scoured all my pages.
I even had the worm that lives in chapter three check all the footnotes.
I just don’t have it.
I have lots of other words – ones that people need to hear, words they’ll never forget, like
“Syzygy,” or
“Chimerical.”
And I have words people always want to read, like
“Adventure,”
“Dragon,”
and “moist.”
Okay, maybe only I enjoy moist.
But I’ve got love. Love I need to tell people about – love that they’ve been waiting to find.
I just don’t have … that word.
But if you could send me some anyway, it would be nice.
I don’t want anyone to forget about me.

The author's comments:
I was searching for a book that had been suggested to me by a friend in my local bookstore, and I pulled out a copy of the book to find another random book had been placed or fallen behind all the other on its shelf. I found this pretty upsetting, so I wrote this poem about it.
