"It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends."

Mother Nature will cower no more.
She grabbed mankind by the necktie
and held his face to her bruised eyes.
She forced him to look at her hollow cheeks
that have lost the blushing brightness of spring.

Mother Nature will cower no more.
She once allowed him to hold her down
and inject poison into her bloodstreams,
but she will not be defiled any longer.
The day of reckoning has come.

Mother Nature will cower no more.
She will not make an excuse for his abuse
and domestication of her body.
She has rejected his manifest destiny;
her sandy skin is no man’s god-given-right.

Mother Nature will cower no more.
She smiled somberly as he tries to plead
but starts suffocating in his own sweltering smoke.
The alarm has been ringing for years
and his hubris will now burn them both.

This is a piece inspired by my fear of mankind's arrogance in dealing with the natural world. I fear that we will destroy "mother nature" due to our selfishness and leave future generations to suffer.
