Ode To A Mirror
A mirror lies in front of you,
what do you see?
Is it beauty?
Is it power?
Is it everything you wish to be?
Now peer closer, but not physically.
Venture deep throughout the picture,
explore every crevice and fissure, every crack and flaw,
is it the same as before?
It is not to me.
Glancing at my reflection, I see beauty, power, everything I wish to be,
it is then that I look closer.
If someone shouted at you from a mile away, would you hear the truth?
No, the further you stand, the more lies taken in,
the more your perception fails to see, hear, take in what truly is.
A person who fails to be exceptional at what she desires,
who denies herself the simple pleasures of a compliment,
who feeds the beast of hate more than liked to admit,
who is dishonest to the face she so fittingly glares at in the mirror, by sincerely whispering “You are beautiful”.
This is who I see.
So, if a newcomer to my knowledge of existing humans tells me I am admirable,
why should I consider it?
They are distant from me, have limited knowing of who I am,
our minds are abstracted, far away.
The isolated information leading to a compliment
speaks not the truth,
speaks from distance,
speaks from a glance.
Step inside this parallel dimension, I dare you.
I dare you to look closer,
I dare you to discover,
I dare you to unveil your flaws,
I dare you to find the infinite imperfections,
And I dare you to accept them.
