Dead Ringer
Shadows swim by my feet
In a bath of moonlight,
And fleeting figures lurk
In the darkness of night.
Yet one of them stays,
Met my eye in a fright,
So I stared back at them
I’m ready for a fight.
Oh, but even as I’m hidden
In the darkness of night,
I can’t shield my eye
From the eye
Of the one far crueler than me.
For I am more selfless than she.
But as the sun soon rises
Above the cold dark sea
I see what’s been hiding
And the figure is me.
