Root Beer
Though you and I have history,
you make it feel like a biased textbook;
we are built off of fiction.
Your love is fabrication, not facts
because what you feel for me
is counterfeit, plagiarism,
something you read in a novel
or saw in a movie.
And I may read everything you write
but I refuse to be a character in your story of us.
I want non-fiction
I need truth
and there has never been the same love twice.
So stop trying to make it happen,
stop creating a plot
where I unintentionally make you feel like watered-down root beer
and you cultivate my culpability.
It’s because of you I drive home
cursing myself.
What I’m saying is I just can’t see a future with you in it
and our story will not have a sequel or a part two.
