It’s the way he listens with an aching ear
to your deepest whispered thoughts.
How he gazes straight into your love-struck eyes
and stops words from making it out of your inviting lips.
You feel every light touch travel throughout your body
as if it were meant to be a playful tickle.
It’s the endless memories you’ve created together
that replay in your passionate mind over and over again.
Because you have him,
life is flawless.

Wrapping his pinky around yours
he swears that his love will last forever,
and you believe him.

But that’s the way it went.

Now, the ear that listened limitlessly
collects secrets from a softer voice.
The deceivingly charming eyes that focused on you
leave her at a loss for words.
The warm touch that once made you tingle
shivers all the way to her bones
And the only thing he gave you to keep
are the bittersweet memories and a goodbye.
Now, you’d even settle for good.

His promise is broken
as fast as it is made.
Without an ounce of trust
you are forced to relive the heartache every day
as the familiar stranger walks by noticing you
less and less each time.
