strolling along the shore without a set destination
he stares with deep appreciation
upon the world he once took for granted
knowing it will soon disappear
sand shifts through his frail toes
sending sediments that taper away into the distance
wind flows through his once hearty hair
fading it to a dull grey
ice capped water displays a reflection
providing peace and satisfaction
knowing his life is complete
a deep breath of salty air fills his decaying lungs
as he grasps for a handful of the rich earth
only for the grains to slip away
