The Mirror
I stare into the black glass river
Wishing it to change
For the yellow light of the factories
To reveal some new secret
I lean over the rails
I look closer into the ripples
Knowing that beneath the coalescing glass
I will learn that which I never wanted to know
That this river, this town, this dock
It’s all the same
It has always been this way
And it will never change
