The Struggle of the Artist
I take out a regular square
It's intimidating how naked, how bare
It is, not to mention the blinding white
And the pressure to get this right.
Take a deep breath, here I go
Watch the pencil flow
See it glide across the paper
I now remember to savor
Little moments
Like this one.
The picture is almost done
Just have to finish shading the sun
My fist moves across the page
Leaving swirls in several shades of gray
When the pencil is done dancing
It drops.
Stop.
