A Written Goodbye
After a long, stressful day of school
he trudges up the steps to his door.
Upon entering he expects
to be greeted by his mother,
who is out of sight.
A shot glass next to a half
empty bottle of Jose Cuervo
catches his eye.
“Mom?”
No response.
Carefully making his way to the stairs
he notices her orange prescription bottles
on the counter.
He nervously inches his way into his room.
Their lives had been going so well,
but suddenly collapsed into pieces.
While dialing 911
he reads the note
that was left on his bed.
