The lie slipped from your mouth.
It felt like you slapped me in the face.
I tried my hardest to stay strong,
But my heart turned to glass and it crashed onto the cold, hard concrete.
Shattered pieces.
Tears flooded my eyes.
I was blinded,
But I saw clearly that your words were just words.
Your promises held nothing.

Your blue eyes pleaded for me to be okay.
You hurt me, but I was killing you.
You took a step forward, but I took a step back.
I was a million miles from you.
Disappointment hugged me.
I didn’t feel any better.

Second chances.
You can’t just hand them out to anyone.
Caution must be taken.
Sometimes it is like giving an extra bullet for his gun
Because he missed the first time.
Would I hand one to you?

I was inspired to write this piece when a person in my life broke the promises he swore to keep. This poem is based on the question I asked myself for a long time- would I give him a second chance?
