They Held Me Here
Once
I asked my daddy
If I could fly and soar
But he clutched me in his arms
And said
No baby, don’t go just yet
So I waited
And asked my Daddy
Daddy, can I go now
To the good world I see beyond me?
But he tightened his hold
And said
No baby don’t leave me
Just yet
So I remained with my daddy
For some time
And I asked,
Oh daddy, can I end this longing
For a better world, and go to what I see
Just ahead of me
But he called my mother and told her
She joined the efforts
To keep me anchored
Here, in this damaged world
So I bided my time
For when they did not watch me
But they still caught me every time
They still hold me here in this world
But now I am grown
And I am thankful
For they let me see life
As it really is
