4 A.M.
Dreams hold me captive,
and swallow me whole.
Nightmares torture me
with their sharp precise fangs,
sinking in,
and holding tight.
My hair coils around my face,
striving to constrict me.
My mind knows my weaknesses,
what I’m terrified of.
It uses sleep to torture me,
by threatening the ones I love.
My unconscious mind
keeps me prisoner.
it keeps me asleep,
has me in its grasp.
If I wake it lulls me back to its chamber,
with its tempting venom,
empty promises of rest.
