Sensations
fear
murder, beating, mangling, crying, writhing
the louder she screamed, the blood ran the fastest
no words, no tears, no prayers just pleading
pleading to chill the blood and stiffen the hair.
we are
half-starved, mangled,
and emaciated creatures
worth half a cent
devoid of justice.
i. am. going. away.
away as i boil over with the bitterest anguish
drown my sorrows
express my happiness
....
....
...
...no sensation
if
i
could
fly...
move merrily before the gentle gale
as my eyes are opened to the horrible pit
let it be enough.
Cheer Me Through The Gloom
Fill Me With Heavenly Smiles And Tranquil Miles.
Open The Gateway, Take The Ell
Though Freedom, Happiness, Goodness, Love, Tenderness, Comfort, Light
Hide In The Dim Distance
hope
(words from the Narrative of the Fife of Frederick Douglass. Arranged by Katiana Weems)
