My Storyteller
My best friend
 is a story teller.
 If you reluctantly
 confide
a secret wish or joy or glimmer of hope
 she will
 TAKE it
 and turn it into more.
 She can tell you
 just how possible it is
for you to do anything you have ever
 wanted to do.
 Her voice,
in a range of fast-paced pitches
can lay out a thick and
 inviting plot.
 My storyteller
 paints elaborate portraits
 of
 how things are gonna be.
 Just wait. You'll see.
 We can actually do this.
We can save up and DO this.
 You can do everything.
 I can do everything
 We can do anything.
 Imagine what we can
 accomplish.
 As her lips
 shape each
 individual tone of listless
 wandering,
I think of how easy things seem.
Her stories are convincing to the nth.
 She could be an actress
 or a politician
 or a used car salesman.
 The difference is
 her earnest promises
 hold real meaning.
 Real value.
 And a real hungry
 desperation
for dreams of a different life.
