One Cold Night
On one cold night
Not too long ago
Down from the height
Fell glistening snow.
I was skating,
But I had to pause,
Stand still waiting,
And just watch in awe.
And as I watched,
I began to wonder
Just how much snow
I did stand under.
Could I count it?
How deep would it be?
A little bit
Later I could see
I didn't care.
I couldn't have measured
The beauty there.
And that I treasured.
In this new time
Of the quite precise
One must take time
To just stand on ice.
