Waiting
I will forever be prepared for something that will never come;
for something will never reach the break of dawn.
The porch swing will still be swinging
and the second step will still be creaking
and everything will still be exactly the same
only the paint may be
a little more chipped.
The cars will fly by
just like the sun in the sky
as I sit here
watching countless day
go by.
By now you would think
that I would be losing my mind
but the thought of you coming
to take me away
is enough to keep me grounded.
Patiently here I will stay
staring at the clock
seconds
minutes
hours
days
ticking away.
“Soon enough” I say
but days never stay
they just turn into
weeks and
months and
years.
But each day
is a new glimmer of hope
that you will join me
here.
