Red the color of
love
blood and
anger

Red the lips
that both kiss you tenderly
and spew out ugly words of hatred and evil

Red the rose
with a glorious fragrance of heaven
and thorns that shriek “pain” to your flesh

Red the carpet
that both the elegant and stately queen steps on
and the black-clad assassin with the silver poisoned knife

Red the heart
full of desperate helpless love in your chest
and the anger of a thousand wrongs pressing for sweet revenge

Red the fire
a leaping dancing entity of bright beauty
that burns your body to ashes and destroys whole nations

Red the sunset
a picturesque sight of the wonders of nature
and the beginning of a vast frightening blackness that holds you captive in its silence and shadow

Red the eyes
of the Devil who speaks encouraging words of temptation
and draws you down into the eternal flames of deepest and hottest Hell

This piece came to mind as I was contemplating the subject of life, with its ups and downs. I wrote this to describe the good- and the bad- in everything.
