"Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken" Oscar Wilde

I look around trap
In a sea of bright blond locks
Smooth clear faces
and flat tight stomachs.
I am the pimple on a flawless face.
Frizzy brown hair pulled into a ponytail
Splotchy skin constantly facing down
And a too big stomach hidden by a too big sweatshirt

I know I don’t fit in
I just sit and wait
Counting the days until I’m out
Where people are not afraid to be different
Where differences make you better
Not worse.
To be loved and appreciated
Not tormented and bullied.

I will change and be something worthy of loving
I will have friends who love me for me
Who I can be myself with
I will grow and become something beautiful
I will learn to love myself
So others can love me
Then I will look back
And be proud of those years
Because now I am the crown on the head of the flawless face.

The author's comments:
This poem is about the stress and judgement during middle school and self-esteem issues. The speaker was ugly and fat through middle school but knew life would get better. It is about knowing to look forward to what will happen later and that things won't always be as bad as they may seem. The speaker starts stuck with the obnoxious plastic perfect people but ends above them in life because of her choices.
