YOU FORGOT!
How could you have forgotten after all the reminders?
The countless hints I bestowed and the heart shaped note binders.
Listen up dear you have nothing to fear,
Today’s not too different than the rest of the year.
The day is most remembered for being forgot,
Yes, it’s not too surprising, either you were ready or not.
I won’t be upset if today slipped your mind,
A remembering fellow is hard to come by.
Yes Roses and Chocolates will seep through the air
Pink and Red boxes might fly here and there.
Commercials have been playing on and off all week
Don’t tell me that you never turned on the TV.
Yes I’ll be ok if you don’t have a bouquet
No I never expected something sweet anyway.
Hugs can be exchanged and kisses arranged
My friend, yes I know that you have nothing to bestow,
No nice perfumes or heart shaped balloons,
even though they can be thoughtful from young guys like you,
I understand if you haven’t planned,
Or hired some sweet love singing dove band.
So I will not shed a tear, or expect you to reappear,
With a love song you wrote, a poem, or nice note.
Yes don’t run to the store to just come back here once more
With some last minute concoction to hang on my door.
Today may be filled with laughter, and love.
If you took me to a candle lit dinner, well that would rank far above.
But I know you were busy these last couple days.
Perhaps you’ve been caught up in your business night haze.
So put today behind you and take a deep breath,
Even though you forgot Valentine’s Day, you won’t be put to death.
But next year, remember, Oh for your sake please do.
They will be countless reminders sure to be in your view,
Commercials and billboard all shaped like a heart
Yes if you don’t remember then we might have to part.
But this year I forgive you, after all we’ve been through
So here is the thing that I had gotten for you.
