A Tender Winter Morning
Winter makes me shiver.
The air in the early morning,
which brushes across my face like my mothers hand
stings.
When the phone rings at 5:20am,
I know it is school calling,
to deliver
a weather related message.
It must be snowing
I think to myself.
That thought is confirmed by the sand truck I hear,
slowly crawling up and then down my street.
I pull my sheets over my head
So I can avoid the cold air in my room.
The satisfying warmth is indescribable,
I want to lay in bed all day.
The delight of waking up to the smell
of pumpkin spice coffee, filtering through the crack
under my bedroom door,
is truly something else.
