Used To Be

January 20, 2014

The way he stumbled to me
When time faded
When it all fell through
When his breath was filled with
fumes of white smoke
He was it

Sun fades
Heart weeps
carrying heavy regret
His words filtered through
Reaching in, absorbing
my emotions
He was it

Lips like velvet
Lungs like ice
pierced the still winter air
His fists clenched
As they dangled at his sides
Face crimson
Chest elevated
Was he worth it?

My face plunged
As I tried to escape
As his grasp turned my skin from pale to purple
As I begged for freedom from his domination
that I willingly desired
He was it

Flash forward
I had succumbed to the greater force
Ignoring the helpless weeping
that punctured my insides

All a memory now
A fantasy from the past
Dusty fingertips approach
receiving nothing in return
Yet clouds of ash still linger in his
revengeful path
