I guess I am just another average girl
But sometimes, I would like to think
That there is something more to me,
Something unusual, something that
Draws you in like a sunset or
The first stars in the sky.
Maybe I am just a wave that
Crashes against the banks of the sea,
Maybe my colors are purple, blue,
Turquoise, maybe.
Maybe I mix in with the sky
And when I speak you cannot hear me,
And I become the clouds, the
Pouring rain that you stepped under
One April afternoon
As you went to grab coffee
And you didn't choose to notice
That the sky was crying that
Day,
And perhaps that coffee that you
Love, with one spoon of sugar
(Because you love your coffee to be
Bittersweet, like me)
Reminded you of me,
Which is why you turned around to see
That the rain was still pouring,
And the people kept walking,
And the world kept going.
Perhaps I am not a wave of purple
Or turquoise;
I am not a Sunday morning
Or the rain in the sky;
I am the coffee that you drink
I am the reason that you
Smile.
