Orphan
He sits there
With a dripping nose and frost-bitten hands
Looking out into the bustling streets
Waiting...
His winter jacket
Patterned with holes
The only thing protecting him from the numbing breeze
He is a lonely boy
Waiting...
Waiting for anything that will give him an ounce of hope
Waiting for a sign
He thinks of the past
Of the day he was abandoned
Left on the streets to rot
Oh, how young he was
Not a day over four
He was betrayed
Betrayed by the ones he thought loved him
Betrayed from the one above
Betrayed by life itself
He spots a family
Two parents
Two kids
All with the same big grin planted on their face
A sharp pain strikes his heart
A tear slips away
As he thinks back to the day he was left
Left at a corner
Left alone in the big apple
No food
No water
No hope
But
He will never give up
Never let sorrow get the best of him
Holding his head high
He sits
Waiting…
