Perfect Football Sunday
It’s going to be cold outside, with a dusting of frost on you car,
And that is how you will know.
Get out of bed
And stretch away the early afternoon winter blues.
Pull on you favorite sweater and rush downstairs
(I prefer a white cable knit one).
The smell of corn muffins and chili
Will envelop you, but don’t lose focus.
You have a mission.
First, make sure there’s a football game on.
Preferably the Patriots, but any other team will have to do.
Scoot over to the pantry, and grab your basic necessities:
A bag of tortilla chips, refried beans, cheddar cheese, and jalapenos.
Place them on the counter. Perfect.
Pull out a cookie sheet- that charred one
That’s probably been used two million times
But is too beloved to ever be replaced.
Spread out a piece of tin foil on it
Not too long, or else the edges will burn
And that is no way to start your day.
Open the bag of chips with its satisfying crinkle
And begin to spread them out on the cookie sheet.
Don’t be stingy! We have all day to eat these.
Next comes the most important part. You better not mess it up.
There is an extremely fine line
Between good nachos and mediocre nachos.
This is the deciding factor. Next, spread the rest of the toppings on,
And place the final product in the oven on broil.
Keep an eye on it or else they will burn, and then the day is ruined.
Wait until they are a perfect golden brown color
And at the perfect moment, take them out.
Take your masterpiece in for a moment.
Voila, your perfect football Sunday has been born.
