A Grey Rain
A grey rain is falling,
A black grey rain is falling over the mountain and the stone
The stone that stands on the mountain, tall and proud on the mountain
By the road that leads to the mountain, a village lonely stands
A village shadowed by the mountain, in the cradle of its hand
A maid looks up at the mountain, the tall and black grey mountain
Her love has climbed on the mountain, tall and strong on the mountain
Her love has climbed on the mountain, for to win her hand
A suitor had come to see her, that dark and raining day
A suitor had come to see her, to make her his that day
The love of the maid had stopped him, there in the soft grey rain
He told him that there on the mountain, they would fight with might and main
So the men have climbed on the mountain, brave and mad on the mountain
The maid looks up at the mountain, she fears what the day may bring
The men now stand on the mountain, strong and fixed on the mountain
Prepared to die that day
Swords flash on the mountain, bright and cold on the mountain
The men now fight on the mountain, there by the stone on the mountain
One will die that day
See the love has stumbled, the suitor’s sword lays bare
A scream now sounds on the mountain, loud and clear in the air
The maid has climbed the mountain, to see the duel on the mountain
The maid sees her love on the mountain, wide and dead on the mountain
In her grief she stumbles, there and high on the mountain
The suitor leaps to catch her but is too far away
The maid has fallen from the mountain, high from the black grey mountain
The suitor is alone on the mountain, there in sorrow on the mountain
He thinks what is done on the mountain, what he has done on the mountain
The suitor climbs down from the mountain, down to the gallows there
The stone now stands on the mountain, tall and red on the mountain
The rain still falls on the mountain, on the mountain and the stone.
A grey rain is falling
