There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.

Life is hard
Life gives you handshakes full of germ-x,
Because they think being different is a disease.
Life gives you glasses half empty, Yet full of disappointment.
Hours of studying
Only to fail
Pain that you can not use artistically to give your life meaning,
Instead tears you down
Until you are a hollow shell
Of what society wants you to be.
Life does not give you second chances
It gives you razor blade love notes and excuses
It gives you alterations in the mirror
Until the person that you see Dying in front of you is no longer you.
It is a thriving bloodthirsty monster
It gives you hope
In the form of light at the end of the tunnel
Only to be blocked
By a gravestone labeled grandfather
It tosses marbles along your way
Just hoping that you fall on your face
And baby this is only from my experiences
But then Life also gives you books and music and really good TV shows
It will give you my fathers cooking
It will give you kisses of inspiration and infect you with laughter
Life will give you cute boys with overbooked schedules,
Leaving no time for you
But you don't care.
You'll meet him when your 14
And it will turn into a one sided love affair by 15.
Where you're faithful to him,
But unable to tell him
That every little quirk of his makes you smile
And that you can tell by the quickness that his lips descend Whether he is faking his smile.
Life hands you bad things yes,
But it showers you with the good.
You cannot get discouraged
And doubt yourself like your mama.
You cannot dwell on your mistakes Only to repeat them
You cannot bring yourself down
Because that job is already taken By everybody else
You can not
And i mean never, little girl,
Ever define yourself as pretty
You will not stoop as low as society
When someone is offended
Never say sorry
Show it through your actions
You will be strong
Even when your heart is on the floor
You keep walking baby girl
Walk right back to mama
And ill make you a new one
Bigger than the old one
So you can let whoever took it out in the first place
Back in and forgive them
I will love you no matter what
And i will make that clear
I will be hard on you
I will do everything i can to make sure you don't get mixed in with the wrong crowd
I will love you
I will love you
I will love you

Sarah Kay's "if i should have a daughter" inspired me to write this piece at 5:45 one Tuesday morning. (the morning of auditions for my schools coffeehouse which i signed up last minute and got in). I don't really know what i want people to take from this. I guess this was just a way to share the lessons I was being taught all at once in a 3 month time period.
