Trophy, trophy, trophy of mine
You're the only one so kind
To remind me of what losers we are
We seem to throw ourselves over time and time again
People always wish to see what lies at the end of their dreams
I wake up every day and drink some tea
I feel the grass beneath the sea of dirt
It's cold and I can see my breath
Some of us may be depressed
But we need to see tomorrow's wealth
We sometimes need to see our breath
In fear that it might not be there overmorrow
You better be grinning instead of sinning
In hopes that karma is kind to you
You never know when someone's time is up
So make the best of yours
Insults,
No promises that it will be heard
Criticism,
Please not another word
Judging eyes rest in ear-curdling cries
Think before your lips become brave
Just so that they don't have to dig another grave
Teachers teach you lessons
Terrible students sometimes show you how to lessen that
But we have to be here tomorrow
in hopes that
Love will never end
Ice cream trucks are still real
and
We can all still feel
the vibes of life encircling the room
That's why we need you
So that we can learn a thing or two
Please don't leave
Please don't go
We need you here to show
How well you turned out after the hurricane

The author's comments:
I feel that the topic of depression and self-esteem issues in teenagers often gets pushed under the rug. What I hope that people will get from this is that although we're all different, we need our differences because they can build a creative and unique world, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. Instead of spending our lives giving everyone a hard time, try to enjoy what little sand is in your hourglass.
