Junkie
When I was young, I was a junkie
And books were my drug of choice.
(Soft cover with crinkled spines being the gateway;
Hard cover with fresh white pages being the hard stuff.)
When I was young, I was sick
So in an ambulance mom drove, I went to a hospital called Barnes and Noble.
(She hated the drive so I started to walk there right after school;
I left just before the staff, just after ten because my mom was on her way.)
And when I was older, I was better
So I drove my mom’s ambulance to that hospital.
(Only now it’s just a store filled with stories like memories.)
