“Be yourself. Above all, let who you are, what you are, what you believe, shine through every sentence you write, every piece you finish.”
-John Jakes

you asked me why
my nervous hands on still keys,
shaking,
surprised-
because you asked why.

I said I didn’t know
because I couldn’t explain love
in a sentence
and you just smiled
and said I was something.

something.
a new word.
unfamiliar, yet so close to
nothing.
me.

so my shaking hands played still keys
again
but I forgot to let them shake
finding a movement against your smile
and finding a smile against my movement
finding
something
to explain love.

The author's comments:
I started taking piano lessons back in the third grade. I still remember my first lesson: thirty minutes of nervousness and excitement and joy. I was hooked.

Eight years later, I still have the same wonderful teacher. She has helped me find myself, and she has given me the special kind of love that exists in music.
