This curling agony violently shushes
The love
Happiness
Hope
Of the hourglass upturned.
The shattered remains of my composure
Fall like rain
Into the unforgiving ocean.
I drown in the roiling waters
Of my own making
Memories now tainted crimson
I flail and fistfight the tide
Never to resurface
~
The corner of my eye
Is the mirror for a smile you never intended me to see
Glancing down with a beautiful shyness
You allow me to trace the contours of your lips with my eyes
Wishing my fingertips could do the same.
I think you know that I love you
But with you, I can never be sure, only hope
That I can figure your cryptic ways.
Me, who knows you best in the whole world
Can you not see
How I would cross hell to have you be
That one I don’t have to wait for?
~

This was going to be a poem about my rage
Complete with strong words
That convey how much I want to rip my heart out
Just to stop the furious racing
That just moves the poisons faster through my tired veins.
But instead is this apathetic, awkward rug of words
Laid out before you
Just so maybe you can understand that this way that I feel
Has never been felt before and
It never will be felt again
Even though I have heard everything has been done,
This wrath is incomprehensible
Undeniable
Ever-present
All hidden behind a complacent façade
~
