Race.
She wonders why everyone sees
What she can’t help but be
Why no one can see what’s underneath
Instead of the outside sheath
She knows she’s the same
But no one tries to look past her name
To see who she truly is
And not what everyone seems to dismiss
She wishes she had a friend
To be with her until the very end
To see what’s under the face
And see past the race.
