Memories of That Night
Winds whisper through the leaves of spindly trees
A lonesome figure is seated and sees
Light that tumbles from a towering streetlight
And beneath, a bird's wings as it begins to take flight
A low hum is emitted from the nearby road
The onlooker observes only, an unspoken code
Detached from the hubbub of human life
A wallflower, recluse, without a wife
Another day over, the sun falls from the sky
Another day unanswered, the question: why?
Misfortune, bad luck, simply coincidence
What inspired fate's cruel turn of events?
The pavement is cool, radiating a chill
As cold as the arms he is desperate to fill
Instead hugging himself, and hugging tight
He glances around, bids the world goodnight
But then from afar, his eye catches sight
A mystical beauty dancing in the moonlight
In the spot where before, the bird spread its wings,
Blissfully unaware of the hope that she brings
She gracefully spins and leaps like a doe,
Then suddenly leaves, his heart full of woe
The observer once again, is left all alone
Disheartened, dejected, he lets out a groan
A moment of silence and then a faint cough
She stands before the man sleeping rough
'If it's okay with you, may I asked you to dance?'
She looked past what is seen upon first glance
They spiralled and twirled under the glow of the moon
And then the sun rose, almost too soon
She walked away from the man towards the light
Leaving memories in her wake of that beautiful night
