Forever Young
I know we shouldn’t be this reckless…
As the world beyond this window whirls past,
And speakers flood out music
Bass blaring through the seat
Rattling your ribcage and drowning your heartbeat
The sun beams through smoke clouds
That thicken the air, as they swirl and brush on our skin
But we inhale it anyhow
This is the buzz we’ve been aching for
Stumbling across a rough carpet in a blur
You can’t get a grip, but always flash a smile when addressed
It’s expected when this life has engulfed you
Body gone limp in someone’s arms
Surrounded by enemies
Masks in friendly faces
But it feels good to lose control
We all recall the fear we lost long ago
Of the things older sisters would only whisper about
The realization that everything before never mattered
What we’ve waited for is here
That golden age of living
17 and free
We die hard youths,
Living for the high, speedin’ with the windows down
Cold wind biting at our cheeks
Though we laugh at the sting, the sense of freedom submerging us fully
Even if only for the moment
Refusing to let it pass
Reckless and young, we feed on uncertainty
The chance of not opening our eyes again
Us lost ones, ridin’ fast and far
Wondering
What becomes of the others
Down the same rode as us
Who didn’t turn back
As the fleeting thought creeps
That if I die strapped up
In this backseat, while glass shards pierce my skin
Or passed out on some cheap house party carpet
While demons disguised as friends smile down at me
Ill smile back
Cause this life was all I wanted
All I knew, all we knew
We carelessly throw our hands up above
Refusing to anticipate the crash
We are the ‘eternally damned’ as they say
Burned and scarred
Abused and neglected
We are selfless patrons of the next generation
We live, unbound by rules, for them
The wingless heroes of a young revolution
We come from tragedy that should have destroyed us
But here we stand
We are the present, the here and now
Free from the dirt-ridden past
Unconcerned with the with the ever changing future
We are undesirable, and broken
But in all honesty, we don’t give a damn
We infinite and endless youth
Ignore the eminent shunning
We sinners and past saints alike
Will not deny our reckless life
Always will we live fast and die free
