Released Into Paradise
Time is precious and delicate,
like a baby bird with its mother for the first time;
if not watched carefully,
a cruel animal can snatch it without the mother’s control.
Someone can become lifeless in such little time.
The family that came together on Sundays to watch football, eat nachos and chili,
are now by his bed side.
The arms on the clock tick by every dash,
the medication numbs deeper into his bones,
and the tears flow like rain on a window pane during a hurricane.
The hopes and dreams of watching his two children grow up to be people bigger than life,
crushed by a stomachache that turned into a man-eating cell;
reaching every organ,
every physical feeling he had left.
Each family member believed in his strength to fight it,
no prediction had been so incorrect.
October 21st, 2013.
His spirit lives on as an inspiration to his kids,
even though his time ran out.
