Gazing up
from below,
daydreaming in beds of ash
that cushioned my collapse.
I was engulfed with rage when the
match was struck. The devil
saw me through, but then left me
alone—enclosed by the two towering
blockades to either sides. They rise
much more superior than myself—
no longer accessible for crossing up top.
Now buried at the pit—up is the only
path back. Charred remains from the
shattered bond above are my last hopes—
aside from my
two hands and a blueprinted dream
that both sides will be bridged together-- once again.

The author's comments:
This poem is a play on the saying "burn bridges." The narrator ruined a relatioship and now he's trapped below where the bridge once was. Now his life is dedicated to rebuilding the relationship.
