Wilting
A young lady poses for an artist
Her red lipstick is faded;
dark, brown hair hastily done.
A flower holds it back
The painter captures the moment.
Soft strokes form her pale neck and face
but as he descends the strokes thicken.
A coarse texture beneath the placidity.
The off-white, ruffled dress hangs loosely
leaving shoulders and bare arms
utterly exposed.
Downcast eyes. Introspective.
Dejected.
She feels herself drooping
like a wilted
petal.
