To be beautiful means to be yourself.
You don't need to be accepted by others.
You just need to accept yourself.

I am from that other family, coming into my life
From the tears strolling down my cheek
The fighting, screaming, yelling, abusing,
It feels like hell

I am from my grandmother's heart,
So loving and caring
From Teete I have cancer
That dark hospital hallway
I will be ok

I am from the lows and highs
From a dark place, low self-esteem,
I am from that mother,
Who saved me

I am from a beautiful place,
The pink daisy flowers,
Soft pine tres
From the warm summer breezes

I am from the light at the end of the tunnel

I went to the race exhibit at The Rochester Museum and Science Center, and a couple days later an expert on Race came into school and spoke to us. She spoke to us about where you come from and how certain people interpret where their from. I was inspired by some of the poems read during this time with her and wanted to write my own. I hope people will be inspired to share parts of their life with people that might share similar experiences.
