Crying

The tears
Creeping down your face
Squinting your eyes
To stop the flood

Staring
Into the distance
Dreaming of a better life
Searching for
A happy place

Screaming
A silent cry
Of desperation
Of pain
Of fear
Of exhaustion

They tell you the tears won’t help
They say this won’t solve your problems
But they’re wrong

The tsunami does help
You feel better
The pain lessens
And the fear dissipates
The oddly comforting warmth of the salty water
Runs down your cheeks
Your throat tightens and
Somehow the inability to talk
Raises your spirits

You see trees in the crack between your eyelids
The trees that you love
They remind you of home
But the anger inside you is too great
The disappointment they feel
That caused you to cry in the first place
It spreads to you
Now you’re disappointed too
They tell you what you must do
But you don’t want to

You try to remember a time when you were younger
Any time that you were happy but it’s so hard
Thoughts of the future enter your mind
What will you do? How can you go on?
And the small amount of joy you felt is gone

You are forever falling into the abyss
Forever longing for a better story
Yet you will continue
Forever
crying
